Tapia Stover has been working as a nurse practitioner and midwife in Alaska for over a decade. She started her career as a pediatric and NICU nurse 15 years ago, but quickly returned to university for her master’s degree to become a nurse-midwife. Once certified as a nurse-midwife, she began working in reproductive healthcare, transitioning before long to full scope nurse-midwifery. She has been blessed to care for women in clinic, as well as attend families in both a freestanding birth center and in the hospital.
Early in the pandemic, Tapia saw her patients navigate many new struggles and witnessed increased mental health concerns. During this time, she decided to return for her post-graduate to become a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. She saw the importance of having a clinician in Alaska that understands both reproductive health and mental health, so that Alaskans have a clinician that can bridge the intricacies of women’s health and mental health. She switched to working as a hospitalist for several years to balance family and university, while still providing care to Alaskans from all over the state, gaining experience in high-risk obstetrics, and completing her certification in perinatal mental health. She also pursued additional training in hormone therapy, ADHD, and talk therapy.
Tapia created The Hive, so that women would have enough time in their appointments to really have their concerns heard, so that their struggles can be honored, their hopes are centered, and we can collaborate for their best life.
Outside of her career, Tapia is blessed to find herself married to her best friend and is the mama of two wonderful kiddos. She loves time with her family, snowboarding, bicycles, hiking, gardening, collecting houseplants, and cooking.
